Lighthouse of the False Sun

A dungeon for His Majesty the Worm.

The Lighthouse of the False Sun once functioned as the defining navigational landmark of a maritime kingdom. The combination of the newly discovered leviathan oil fuel source and the technical invention of the Fresnel lens allowed it to burn away mist and fog for many nautical miles and act as a symbol of naval might.

So it acted as a beacon for many years until a forgotten sorceror, seeking to improve their place within the courts, carved alchemical symbols and runes into the lens, enhancing its capabilities. Now under the hands of experienced lightkeepers, it could turn night to day and emit burning rays that would drive off the most colossal of sea creatures.

This minor simulacra of the Sun Itself worked well enough to attract a Solar Moth during its Centennial Migration from the Sun to the Stars. Taking roost upon the top of the Lighthouse, the heat of the Solar Moth brought ruin upon the kingdom, wiping it from the annals of history. 

Now the Lighthouse has been absorbed by the Underworld, the Moth guards its pupating brood, Flame Moth Cultists worship the Moth and Lightouse Flame as gods while Lightkeeper Zombies still guard and maintain the operations of the Lighthouse as they did in life.

Though haunted with myriad dangers, the Lighthouse offers adventurers plenty of opportunities go gain loot, learn ancient lore and perhaps even the chance to undergo metamorphosis into a Greater Being...
